We all have different reasons for starting NoFap, but there is one thing in common, which is for Nofap to assist us in becoming a better version of ourselves.

So the question remains, does it?

Whether you are doing just NoFap or Semen Retention, or just abstaining from Porn, at the end of the day it all boils down to the same thing and that is MINDSET. Your Nofap journey is where you are altering your mindset to focus on things that actually matter in life instead of temporary pleasures.

However, most people are very skeptical about quitting porn because they think it’s completely normal and healthy.

So in this article, we’ll be shedding some light on NoFap and the changes which occur in your mind, body, life during the initial 30 days of Nofap.

Firstly let’s just discuss why you should start your NoFap Journey. For this, we will have to become aware of what harm excessive Porn and masturbation causes to our brain.

The internet is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it has revolutionized the world, giving us the power to communicate, access knowledge, save time, and entertain in numerous ways. But on the other hand, it has become a conduit for some of the most primal desires and emotions we have as humans. Of all the desires that the internet fuels, the desire for synthetic or virtual sex is, seemingly, by far the most lucrative, sought after, and abused desire of all. Technology has also led this millennial generation to become absolutely dependent on it to fulfill these emotions.

One of the most unfortunate byproducts of internet pornography is its crippling addiction in men and women. And the worst part about it is that children are not even aware of what they are getting themselves into. And when you look at the numbers, they are quite scary. Research shows that about 67% of 13-year-old boys and about 40% of 13-year-old girls have seen at least one pornographic image on some sort of digital device in the past year. Those numbers jump up toward the end of adolescence. By the age of 18, over 90% of boys and over 60% of girls have seen porn in some form or other. Millions of individuals, some as young as 14, while others in their 50’s and still unable to get rid of this addiction.

Excessive intake of Porn and continuous masturbation leads to erectile dysfunction. In addition to this porn also induces many mental barriers. Early stages of anxiety and depression are seen in teenagers.

The downregulation of dopamine receptors and how NoFap helps in its upregulation.

A lot of porn addicts constantly report about loss of motivation and willpower in their life. The reason behind this is that porn and masturbation have completely messed up their dopamine reward system. Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that gives us the desire to seek pleasure or potential rewards. PMO (Porn Masturbation & Orgasm) floods our brain with dopamine in a very fast and unorthodox way. High dopamine levels cause the number of dopamine receptors in the brain to decrease.

This is called downregulation: more masturbation leads to fewer dopamine receptors. As a result, your capability to feel pleasure from anything decreases. You need more and more stimulation. That’s why people go for more bizarre porn or use stimulants for a stronger orgasm.

But when we start NoFap, our dopamine receptors upregulate, and recovery begins. With more dopamine receptors, you start feeling more pleasure from simpler things like completing small tasks, listening to music, receiving compliments, etc. So if you’re wondering, “Does NoFap make you happier?”, that’s the answer.

But here’s the tricky part. Downregulation happens quickly but upregulation is a slow process. That’s why we develop cravings and addictions almost immediately. But overcoming them takes much more time and willpower.

So here is my take on the First 30 days of a NoFap Journey.

As we all know habits are not easy to break. It doesn’t matter if they are good or bad, the principle is the same, it requires 21 days to erase or make a new habit.

During the first week, you’ll come across a lot of urges. It would be a tough task to keep your hands away from your pants. And this is completely fine as our brain has been wired to Porn. Every sensitive picture will trigger you. But It will go down by itself. Here some mighty soldiers end up relapsing. Even if you relapse, don’t binge and get caught in the relapse cycle. Try again. After 2–3 failed attempts you’ll be back on track.

Wet dreams or nightfall may happen. Don’t worry, they are a natural way of your body dealing with sexual tension. You can even avoid them by avoiding stressful thoughts, fantasizing, and looking at the screen at least an hour before bed.

These are the tough courses of the first week but once you get through, you’ll feel an increase in your energy levels and feel far less lethargic than usual. This is because the testosterone levels have increased in the past week.

In the 2nd week, your testosterone levels reach a new high because you have never abstained from porn for 10–14 days in the past few years. So this will be an all-new feeling. A feeling I bet you would remember for a long time.

Through the course of the 2nd week, your social skills improve. You have less social anxiety now. The reason behind this is the guilt of masturbating has gone. You are a free man now. Thus a feeling of self-acceptance arrives.

Around the 3rd week, you start getting harder and longer-lasting erections. Premature ejaculation also decreases and therefore people report having a better sex life. But many people experience a little anxiety and depression during this stage of nofap. This is called ‘Flatline’ in the NoFap terms. You can read more about it in detail here.

Our ManDontFap application helps individuals to get past this tough phase by providing daily motivational wallpapers, insightful articles, and many more features.

After you get through the third week, Alpha male signs start to appear. Female attraction (Opposite sex) increases manifold. Almost 8 out of 10 individuals on the NoFap journey experience this. It doesn’t mean that NoFap makes us attractive magically. The reason behind this is individuals are now into their masculine state. They are highly confident, ready to take risks, approach women. Therefore the results follow. During NoFap your overall outlook on women and sex changes. Also, now have more time to work and focus on other things.

This is how your mindset improves when you finish a month of NoFap. You have a clearer and far more positive mindset. Eventually, porn will seem dull to you. Chances are you won’t even have time to think about it. Desires cannot be destroyed but you can redirect them. And while doing this you find yourself.
